Oh Beautiful, Sweet-Tasting Pulled Pork Street Meat

We are certainly glad this giant metal piggy went to errr...park really close near the market. Indeed, we are talking about the alpha-pork mobile Maximus Minimus, the newest mobile food creation by Kurt Dammeier of Beecher's and Pasta & Co. and local designer Colin Reedy. We spotted--hard not to--the giant metal pig-mobile parked truck at the corner of 2nd and Pike, selling a simple menu of pulled pork (and veg) sandwiches and a few of its fixins. Now when it comes to heat, we are admittedly a big ol' wuss, so we passed on the Maximus sauce and opted for the deliciously tangy and sweet Minimus sauce instead. So if ever you needed a reason to escape the confines of your office, this pulled pork sandwich is a great excuse. You can find Maximus-Minimus in their spot weekdays from 11 a.m. until the sandwiches run out.

so you don't really say how the sandwich tasted. you only reviewed the sauce ("deliciously tangy and sweet").

this shouldn't surprise me too much as not one reviewer has said ANYTHING about the quality of the pork; if it was cooked well, tender, juicy or had any sort of discernable flavor qualities that would allow it to stand alone sans the magic sauces.

it's great to get choices but a pulled pork sandwich should be about the meat and not the sauce.

Well, I'll be happy to give you that review. The first bite was delicious. The pork, very tender, juicy and certainly had been slow cooked. Throw in a little bit the cheese (add $) and cilantro which really bring out the pork flavors. The sandwich wasn't overly heavy, greasy or even saucy. It was just perfectly delicious.

And for a mobile pig that just recently opened, all food critics are giving them some breathing room to figure things out before everyone starts nit-picking.

z33: i couldn't easily discern the flavor of the pork from the flavor of the sauce, but the meat was certainly moist, tender – of good texture in general. I would say the meat flavor was probably pretty spot on, as I do remember the sauce being a bit more balanced (not overpowering) than most BBQ places that just slop it all over, but really the thing was gone in a few minutes so I don't remember much save the giddiness that pork invokes and the regret that I hadn't bought two.

If you like pulled pork to any degree I'd say this place is a must eat.

Isn't that place all about the sauce?

I'm just happy I live in a city where something so awesome comes advertised with a Veg option. Can't wait to try!

just ate there today. got the minimus pork...they say the minimus is sweet and the maximus is spicy. the pork was soft and juicy and the sauce wasnt too sweet. i tried a piece of maximus pork, and i must say it wasnt that spicy at all, and im not big on spicy food.
the slaw there was better than i was expecting. no mayonaisey slathered cabbage, more of a vinaigrette dressing.. the minimus had apples sliced in it, and the maxiums had no apple and a little kick.
the ginger lemonade was also really good.

I just love the look of that truck, crazy looking! I have a feeling driving around in that would be a lot of fun, brainwave entrainment

I think you are quite right their Clair! Has a very 50's retro look to it doesn't it! how to break a habit
