People, It's Not That Hot

We have to talk about something serious, you guys: it's summer. We know, it was warm yesterday and it's gonna be warm today. But it's not that bad. Wednesday was a record-breaking day, and the official temp at SeaTac didn't even hit 90. Today's going to be more of the same, but we're sure we'll make it through this terrible ordeal just fine.

Personally, we hate it hot, and even we are managing. But yesterday we encountered yet another version of the Uptight Seattleite, and he was not happy. This guy was in his 50s, wearing baggy shorts, a short-sleeved button-down with a fanny pack, black gym shoes, and navy socks (pulled up, natch). He looked utterly bedraggled. Everyone else at the neighborhood shop was dressed summery and talking about what a lovely day it was, but this guy was just not having it. First he said, "This is what happens when you cut down all the trees." (Ummmm...or it's summer...) We told him that dealing with a day or two of such weather wasn't so bad, and there was a long sigh before he said, "I just don't want it to be like this through July." We let him know not to worry, that there would be June Gloom soon enough, and this actually seemed to reassure him. Nut up for one more day, folks, as marine air should be rolling in tonight, with cloudy cooler weather for the weekend.

I havent heard any heat complaints yet. I think that was a fluke. If you dont watch the news, a lot of the hype tends to just not be there.

But theres nothing I enjoy more than seeing ugly granolas and baby boomer mossbacks looking overdressed and miserable in the heat.

Adrian Beltre is certainly heating up, and it's about damn time!

  • Okay, I just made a reference at work to something being like Beltre's batting average.

    Creepy, Seth.

  • COMTE

Um, hate to disabuse you of your notion, because I agree it certainly FEELS like summer, but the actual Summer Solstice is still a good 2 1/2 weeks away (June 21st to be exact).

    Way to be literal, Comte.

  • I hate hot weather, and I consider anything above 75 to be unpleasant.

On the other hand, I know how to dress for the weather, and I know how much fun it is to hear people bitch about the climate for the other 3/4 of the year, so I shut my yap and let people cultivate their skin cancer in peace.

  • That guy has obviously not been around here for that many years. I'm not going to describe the weather calendar here again. You know it or you don't.

Also, I just got in from LA last night (where it was under 70 and raining...) got home at 11 and holy shit, it was still 80... wtf.

Uh, Troy, as our Reader it'd be great if you kept us posted on when you're gonna be out of town. We were writing up a storm yesterday.

  • I know, I couldn't keep up and I'm pretty sure I missed a lot of articles. I assume if it's important you'll reference them in articles today. Which you did.

  • Audrey

No, he said he's from here. Does that make it better or worse?
