This Saturday, Hugo House is once again putting on Write-O-Rama, and we hope that you've got your pencils sharpened and notebook ready, because this is one fundraiser not to be missed.
So this is how it works: you donate a minimum $45 pledge to help fund further Hugo House programs and projects, and in exchange you have a full day to choose from over 40--40!--one-hour writing workshops with local favorites such as Ryan Boudinot, Wendy Call, Ed Skoog, David Lasky, and oh so many more, you'll just have to see it to believe it. Besides taking classes with titles such as Write a Novel in an Hour, or The Art of the Angry Letter (awesome), Hugo House supplies all the food and drink you will need for a day, two open mics, and a wrap party at 5 p.m. following the last session. Plus, you'll hopefully walk away with some fresh ideas and writing in your notebook, new friends, and a great entrance into the Hugo House writing classes that are held year-round. Keep in mind the pledges can come from anywhere...maybe your cat, that last journal that didn't accept your work, or even that cousin from across the country you haven't seen since you were seven.
We hope to see you there, since we were at the last Write-O-Rama earlier this year, and it was one of the coolest and most fun writing fundraisers we've ever attended. Even if you decide to go at the last minute, pledges will be accepted all day during the event, drop-ins are welcome, and if anything, you can always sponsor a friend.
And most importantly, there are a ton of prizes to be given away, including free Hugo House classes, mugs, literary swag, signed books, and everything Hugo House represents. They even promise that if 100 people pledge $100 each, there will be fireworks. Seriously, what's a better way to spend your Saturday?
Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., first classes at 10 a.m. // Richard Hugo House, 1634 Eleventh Avenue // $45 minimum pledge

Tuesdays are Muppet Days
