Courtney Russell Brings the Runway Under Her Umbrella

You know you live in Seattle when all the titles of major cultural events are named after the rain. Enter newest annual Seattle fashion event Parasol Party, brought to us by Courtney Russell of Half Past Lavish Events, Seattle’s own fashion show producer powerhouse.

The Parasol Party is a brand new fashion show featuring local rising star Kimberlee Iblings, roaming photographers, exclusive shopping, desserts, cocktails, and a complimentary pampering room overlooking the Clise Mansion gardens with free spa services from Julep Nail Parlor and Bellevue Massage. Kimberlee Iblings, proprietor of Deco Modiste in Georgetown, hand-produces her line of vintage-inspired, natural fiber clothing and was featured most recently in Seattlepicks.com and at the EcoLavish Fashion Show, also produced by Russell.

The Parasol Party is the newest installation in Half Past Lavish’s (HPL) series of fashion events. Last year HPL was responsible for producing a good majority of our local fashion shows: EcoLavish (one of the only eco-friendly fashion shows in Seattle), Project Red Dress Competition at the Fairmont, IMAGINE, and the Boho Fashion Shows, though with big names like Macy’s and Fashion Group International as sponsors, you may have never guessed it was all orchestrated by one of our own local, homegrown companies. Russell and her HPL entourage are proving to be one of Seattle’s major conveners in the fashion community.

"Something my company does that is pretty novel in the Seattle area is that we don’t just get clients and plan events for them. We do that, but we also develop our own shows that showcase Seattle's fashion community.... Our shows focus on highlighting up-and-coming designers and we put a strong emphasis on pairing local boutique owners with local lines. We have many great designers and shops in Seattle, but many weren't working together," says Russell.

And in true Seattle form, Russell got involved in the local fashion community not because she is a "fashionista" per se, but because of her passion for the creative arts. "My background is in theater arts, and in addition to my own passion and creativity is organization, management and event skills and resources. I want to make sure that there is a strong vehicle (fashion shows) to properly market and showcase our local designers."
