Jason Lytle Eludes Interview, Opens for Neko Thursday
Special to Seattlest: Matt Whiting of the music blog Back Beat Seattle.
It seems almost too perfect that technology is what ultimately derailed our interview with the famously technologically-wary Jason Lytle. With nothing but spotty cell phone reception as he traveled through Wyoming, the former frontman of Grandaddy was unable to find a signal that would last long enough to allow for a successful interview.
As our carefully crafted questions remain unanswered—many of which pertained to Jason’s emblematic distrust of technology—we're left with only one side of what we hoped would be an engaging conversation about rebirth, the impact of technology on society, and the exploration of themes proclaiming the wonder of the natural world. (Special thanks to the kind folks at ANTI-Records and 3AM who did their best to prevent this technological mishap.)
While our interview with Jason this round was a bust, those of us in Seattle have two chances to see Jason this Thursday as he opens for Neko Case at the Paramount and subsequently ventures over to the intimate Mars Bar for a headlining acoustic after-show gig. Look for Jason to play much from his critically lauded (NPR- and Pitchfork-approved) solo album released just last month. In the meantime, take in Jason’s latest video for “I Am Lost,” and keep your fingers crossed that technology doesn’t betray you.
