Capitol Hill's New Frozen Treat Option

MollyLineUp.jpg

If you are a sane person and would not consider standing in a line this long for ice cream, even that of Molly Moon's quality standards, we have good news for you: Old School Frozen Custard is open [1316 E Pike Street].

ChocolateCustardCone.jpg First things first: for their grand opening, they're serving free cones from 3-10 p.m. this Saturday, June 6.

CHS already hot-footed it over there, and the comments on their post fall clearly into the "fan" category.

Cap to the Hill says of the chocolate cone ($3), "the scoop was big and for only 170 calories it blows molly moon’s fat ass outta the water."

We're sending frozen custard expert Seattlest James for a full review, but for now let us answer your first question: What is frozen custard?

Delicious, creamy, silky, soft-freezy, that's what.

Oh, so much better than Molly Moon's horrible ice cream.... she is all hype. Try her vanilla or choc...absolutely horrible.

Old School is rockin it. I had some choc right off the machine last night. So dense and smooth and creamy... just like Leon's (my fave custard place back home).

Talk about options. Different flavor everyday, like 50 toppings, full espresso machine, shakes....ahhhhh so good.

This was so not like the custard I'd had before -- it wasn't soft serve although it had had the same consistency. The staff is still clearly figuring things out and the menu board is anarchic and confusing.

I'll give it another try but it didn't blow me away at all.

I am NOT on the custard band wagon. I heard so much about it, but when I tried it (not on Cap Hill, but at the new place on Roosevelt) I found it quite bland. Kind of like a more-dense soft serve. At least the balsamic-strawberry at Molly's is something new.
