Can't Miss It: Wednesday
SINGER/SONGWRITER: It's been too long since we heard Molly Rose's dulcet vocals ring out in a local bar, but that's remedied tonight at the Tractor. It's a CD release show for her new album Clandestine, and she's appearing with the Nick Jaina Band and Pickwick. Molly puts just the right amount of poetry into her lyrics, conjuring up image fragments that wriggle like a worm on a catchy hook.
9 p.m. // Tractor Tavern, 5213 Ballard Avenue NW // Tickets: $6
WHY JOHNNY IS READING: Only a few of you--mostly parents--will be into this, but elementary and middle school students from Writers in the Schools (WITS) are reading from their work tonight, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the library downtown. (Park in the Central Library garage for a $5 special event rate.) We mention this to plug WITS, a school-based artist-in residence program sponsored by Seattle Arts & Lectures--at the end of it, the kids get their stuff published in a book. Babycakes are provided by Cupcake Royale.
6-7:30 p.m. // Seattle Public Central Library, 1000 Fourth Avenue, Microsoft Auditorium // FREE
POOLSIDE: The weather service says 90 degrees today, and the Red Cross is handing out advice on how to survive: Dress for the heat, carry water, eat small meals and eat more often, avoid strenuous activity, stay indoors as much as possible, and take time out to find a cool place. For that last one, we have you covered: Wading pools. We were going to send you to West Seattle's Colman Pool, which is outdoors and has a Puget Sound view, but it's only open weekends until June 13.
