On Capitol Hill, We See Bears All the Time

The neighborhood blogosphere lit up over the weekend as a black bear was sighted first at Discovery Park, then in Ballard. Apparently the bear swam over to Ballard, and who could blame it, with all the traffic congestion from the Norwegian parade? Plus, it was hot. The Department of Fish and Wildlife says to call 911 if you see it.

...snide comments and crude innuendos abound in my brain.

"How can we be sure it was really a Bear if it left Capitol Hill for Ballard? Isn’t it more likely that it’s a fisherman or some scruffy musician? If it were really a bear, then why in the hell did it ever leave R Place or The Cuff?”

...and so on in that vein.

I'm rather enjoying the trend of wild animals saying "fuck it" and hanging out with us on the street. I was chatting with some family members who have wolves hanging out on their streets down in Oregon.

Ah, I read the news elsewhere and wondered how it made it to Ballard from Magnolia. I was really hoping it made it over the pedestrian bridge at the locks. Imagine the tourists' faces as he squeezed by them. But swimming - yeah, that makes more sense.
