Circus Contraption has announced that, once again, they're extending the end of "The Show to End All Shows," which is, apparently, actually the last the show they intend to do. A meta-circus performance, this final work explores the perversion of the circus-sideshow acts. Starting out a happy clip, with songs about slop-buckets full of love, patriotism, and a dash of seventies American rock-pop mixed into the standard repertoire of fucked-up carny music provided by the Circus Contraption Band, "The Show to End All Shows" ends on a painfully dark note, having seen its cast of lovable circus people transformed into whoremongerers. Shot through with black humor, stunning performances, and themes of wanton greed and exploitation, it's the perfect note for Circus Contraption to go out on. If they ever actually manage to close up shop.
Extended through June 14! ~ Fri. & Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 7 p.m. // Circus Contraption @ Theo Chocolate, 3400 Phinney Ave. N. // $20-$25, all ages, bar w/ID
