We've all heard the old environmental saw that the plastics we toss today stick around in the environment for a long time. At the same time, librarians and, especially, archivists worry about the preservation of recorded information and the durability of formats. Perhaps, then, we ought to start encoding everything onto plastic trinkets and burying it in designated landfills. Much like today's archaeologists rooting around ancient garbage pits, future scenester aliens will learn a great deal about our extinct civilization by uncovering precious artifacts like this, as digital records will have long been degaussed by the magnetic storms. It's just too bad that the awesome mix tapes we made for this device are not durable. Sorry, alien archaeologists, you'll have to figure things out the hard way without benefit of a killer tunes soundtrack. Yeah, History is cruel like that. Irony, it seems, is not without a sense of fate.

In the meantime, there is no shortage of compelling visual flotsam and jetsam awaiting to float across your transom in the Seattlest Flickr pool!
