Beer enthusiast/evangelist Geoff Kaiser used to write about the beloved beverage for Seattlest before he got wise to the whole, hey, anyone can start a blog thing. God, we miss him bringing his market research back to Seattlest HQ. Check out his Seattlebeernews.com for updates and reviews on many of the events from Seattle Beer Week.

Seattle Beer Week is here! What the hell is it? It’s ten days of drinking at more than 100 events at beer bars, restaurants, breweries, bottle shops and more, taking place all over the city and region. Seattle Beer Week is our chance to celebrate all that is great about drinking good beer in our fine city. As a cornerstone of the craft-brewing industry, Seattle offers countless great places to grab a beer. There are many great breweries, and there are probably even more outstanding beer bars. There are active homebrew clubs, outstanding bottle shops, and likely more people per capita that care about good beer than anywhere else in the country (Okay, Portland probably beats us there).

Things kick off at the Pike Brewery at 5 p.m. today with a cask of the special Double IPA they brewed as the official commemorative beer for the week (also available in 22-oz. bottles; and it's awesome), and the party won't slow down until Sunday, May 17. Check out the events list on the Seattle Beer Week website for details and updates. Here are a few highlights:

Sour Beer Fest at Brouwer’s Cafe on Thursday, May 14 - Over 30 sour beers being poured from the tap, most of which will either be one-off creations or rare brews. The kickoff is Thursday night with many of the brewers in attendance such as Adam Avery (of Avery Brewing), Vinnie Cilurzo of Russian River Brewing, Rob Todd of Allagash, and Ron Gainsburg of Cascade. The night will also be the Seattle premiere of Victory Brewing’s Wild-Devil!

The Great Elysian Beer Festival at Elysian Fields on Saturday, May 9 - 40+ Elysian-brewed beers on draught at Elysian Fields noon-10 p.m. Expect to see quite a few special brews that you haven't seen before. You can see the full list on the Seattle Beer Week events list.

Bodacious Beverages at the Beveridge Place Pub on Friday, May 15th & Saturday, May 16th - As many unusual beers as they could come up with. Odd ones, rare ones, new ones, etc. Elysian Peppercorn Saison, Trade Route (formerly Laughing Buddha) Curry Rauchbier, and Silver City Fat Woody just to name a few.

Hop Scotch Festival at the Fremont Studios on Friday, May 8 & Saturday, May 9 - 7th annual tasting experience highlighting the best of malt beverages including new spring beers, exclusive import beers, and premium Scotch. Friday session 5 p.m.-12 a.m., Saturday Session 1 p.m.-12a.m.
