Can't Miss It: Thursday

The Vivian Girls, at Neumo's tonight.
FUZZY: Everyone's favorite NYC-based noise-pop band, the Vivian Girls, are back at Neumo's tonight. Last year, their self-titled debut made it on nearly everyone's best-of list, despite the fact the band lacks the harmonic sensibilities of, say, tour mates like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart (not with them tonight). In fact, for all the talk about a resurgence of "noise pop" with cascades of fuzz and distortion, the Vivian Girls remind us of no one more than the notorious, idiot-savant kiddie band the Shaggs.

ALMOST: This week, The Brandon Ivey Show, Seattle's favorite live talk show, has beloved local icon John Keister. That's right, the Almost Live! guy. A lot of people hate that show these days, but anyone local and anyone who fondly remembers the days when not all television was sanitized, nationalized corporate crap remembers the efforts of Almost Live, with its never-ending stream of jokes about Boeing engineers and bad drivers from Ballard, with fondness. And anyway, it's awesome to know where The Soup's Joel McHale came from.

GLAM-TRUISTS: Northwest Hope & Healing, a local group founded by a breast-cancer survivor to offer support to other cancer victims, is holding a glammy fashion fund-raiser down at the Showbox SoDo. Ten local boutiques will have their stuff strutted after an opening gala for VIPs. Tickets are a bit steep, but then again, this is charity. $40 general admission for the seven o'clock runway show; VIP admission at six starts at $125. Details here.

6/7 p.m. // Showbox SoDo, 1700 First Ave. S. // $40-$1000
