"You're My Sunshine!" by photobynani , from the Seattlest Flickr pool
We're filling in for Tom's exposition today, so we have to perform a closer reading of the photograph of the day than we normally do, and somehow bring it all back to our Polish roots. The first thing that strikes us is that the photographer has placed us in the mud at the foot of the tulips, which are shining with the sun like the multitude of reflectors in a solar array--not very far off the mark, metaphorically, given they are hard at work with photosynthesis. (Yes, we have recently read Eating the Sun.) So from our worm's-eye-view, we gaze upward (surely more intently than worms can do) a moment in wonder before our return to earth. Is it possible to view this photograph without thinking of Poland's "Best Partner of the Tulip Park"? Or our mortal soil? So much of human existence is there in for the viewing in the Seattlest Flickr pool.
