The ORCA Card Arrives
Commonsense prevails, as the seven Puget Sound public transportation agencies--that includes ferries too--have joined together to start rolling out their new "transportation baby," a collaborative regional fare system.
It's called the ORCA card, which stands for (pdf) "One Regional Card for All." The debut of the "tap and go" ORCA card will now allow the system to start phasing out the roughly 300 gazillion types of other passes currently used (not for awhile, so hold your horses, cold cash still accepted), and let riders preload the card from $5 up to $300. Big steps here for Seattle, certainly a step in the right direction for functioning public transportation system.
In honor of the ORCA card and its catchy mission to be the "one regional card for all," we were inspired to fill in the rest of the transit pledge of allegiance.
Seattle's Pledge of Public Transportation
We pledge our taxes
to the public transportation
of the Puget Sound
and even to the Eastside
for which you stand as it moves,
one really long trip at a time,
until budget cuts,
with fraying patience, and one regional transit pass for all.
