VIOLENTLY HAPPY: Tonight is the monthly Seattlest meetup, this time at Solo in Lower Queen Anne. We'll be taking in their all-day happy hour, which means $1 off all beers and wines, $2 Rainiers, $3 wells, $4 sangria, and $5 bites. We'll also have prizes to raffle off care of the jerky boys at Oberto, including t-shirts, a steak brander (hello!), and samples of the not-released-till-May Southern Style BBQ Pork jerky. Mmmm...meat....
5 p.m-8 p.m. // Solo // 200 Roy St. // as much as you spend on drinks and food
ANVIL!: If you missed it last week during the live experience at El Corazon, you can still catch Anvil! The Story of Anvil at the Varsity this week. Surprisingly, this documentary about a failed Canadian heavy metal band is one of the best-reviewed films of the year. Even more surprising is that milquetoast New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane recently referred to Sacha Gervasi's debut as "the most stirring release of the year thus far." Equal parts rock, comedy, and yes, heart, Anvil! is a sure thing, even if you're not into metal.
7 p.m., 9 p.m. // The Varsity // 4329 University Way NE // $9.50
LIF FOR LIFE: Or head to Neumo's for smart political rhymes and a big head of dreads, care of Boston MC Mr. Lif. He'll be dealing out the big beats and truth serum, along with Grieves, Willie Evans Jr., and Nite Owls. Check it: this show used to be all-ages, but now it's 21+. Sorry kiddos.
9 p.m. // Neumo's // 925 E Pine St // $12 adv, 21+
