Seattle Fashion Freak

Last night, we went to the Seattle Fashion Week launch party and got a chance to meet some of the featured designers, models, and SFM Executive Director, Gabriel Choy, the Art Institute photography graduate responsible for bringing a Fashion Week to Seattle.

Since its inception in 2003, Seattle Fashion Week features three days of all-local fashion, from independent designers to retailer showcases and high-fashion couture, attracting about 1,000 spectators. This weekend's finale will feature Blayne Walsh, Seattle's own Project Runway contestant. After watching this year's crop of impressive student fashion shows, we're most excited for Friday night's feature of "Emerging Designers," expected to include up-and-coming green designers like Jme of Salvation Ware.

"With Seattle Fashion Week, we want to make our city a destination place for fashion--we want the fashion world to come to Seattle--but to do that, we've got to get the buzz going," says Choy.

April 16-18, 7 p.m. // Fremont Studios // 155 N 35th // $20-150 per showcase, dress code enforced

For the price of admission to this thing, I could just fly to New York and attend a real fashion show and not have to pay for it. This is a joke, and no one is ever going to take Seattle seriously as a fashion forward city with the attitude that you should pay to see the shows as well as the shows poor quality.
