One thing that was recommended is putting your food scraps in a container in the fridge and then dump them in your yard waste bin. It seems weird at first blush, but it isn't really all that different from storing leftovers, as mentioned in the post. Personally I haven't had any problem just keeping my compost pail on my counter, but then again, I almost never eat meat, so that might be the issue.

I refuse to have my home smell like a garbage dump because the city deems it so. I'll continue to grind my food waste in the disposal and flush it down the sink thankyouverymuch.
