Hey Lorraine, how about the next time we solicit readers for blog entries you submit an entry (not a link to your entire blah blah blog) before we pick a winner? That would be sweet.

  • I don't really want to get involved with this argument, but I do want to point out that while we may not generate a lot of original news stories (reporting is expensive and we're not exactly rolling in bucks), we do quite a lot of original arts reporting. The lead story right now on Seattlest is a lengthy interview with local jazz composer Andrew Boscardin; within the last week we've also done interviews with a cast member of Cats and the band the Thermals, and finally at any given time, we typically have coverage of four to ten currently running theatre productions.

  • Additionally, I am a firm believer that everything can become better-- Seattlest included. Which is why I don't sit on the sidelines shitting in their sheets. I make suggestions and help figure out reasonable and practical ways to improve.

Your comments seem to be exactly what you hate-- putting down those who are trying to create something of value. All I'm saying is help, leave, or stfu.

  • Which is fine, but making snide and childish comments on posts which are round-ups and bullet point notifications of things that may be of interest to readers is detrimental to your intent and causes you to seem like a jackass.

I appreciated some of your comments on other posts requesting more investigation, stronger critiques of events, etc. But this shit pisses me off. And to blanket it as no-talents is bullshit. Maybe less talent than a journalist who gets (or in this case, got) paid to do that is different than volunteers.

And I do have a life outside of Seattlest. It's just not that great, thank you very much.

Unlike you, Troy, I make occasional posts here. (Unlike you, apparently, I have a life life outside Seattlest.)

What I object to is people with little talent who produce little of value crapping on those who actually are working to produce something of value. I actually like the concept of Seattlest and am continually disappointed in its quality.

So when I see these no-talents with nothing better to offer than repetitious criticism and smarmy comments about people with actual ideas and writing talent it pisses me off.

  • No, and that's an asinine conclusion. What I meant by central, community blog is that they're a BLOG (first and foremost, which means they can offer up opinions) which exists as a central point of dissiminating information regardless of neighborhood or topic, in so far as it pertains to Seattle and it's people. So yeah, it fucking means processing and delivering pre-existing information.

Also, please define "original content." Because I've read a few reviews and other posts on here that I would deem original. I've also read some articles on news sites that are clearly not. Now, the Post Globe (which I love exists and RSS'd it right away) is now in Day 2, so how you can proclaim it's originality after a handful of posts is astounding.

My point was that you coming onto a shitty site to whine about how shitty it is on posts that are at best a stretch to justify your shit whining is... well... shitty. Especially when you compare it to a site whose purpose and function in society is inherently different.

So please, explain why you keep participating in something you belittle and degrade? Seems just about as stupid as comparing apples and oranges.

  • bigyaz

So Troy, you're saying because it's a "central community blog" (whatever that means) Seattlest doesn't need to offer anything original or anyone who can actually write? Glad we've cleared that up.

  • Oh bigyaz... where to start...?

Apples and Oranges. One is an online newspaper, another is a central community blog.

You keep commenting on how shitty it is, yet you keep coming back? It's like your the weird kid who keeps getting in trouble so his mom will spank him while he feels her boobs against the back of his head-- all while wearing the most disturbing shit-eating grin.

  • bigyaz

On Day One it's already better than the drivel spewed here. It has actual original content (rather than a collection of wise-ass opinions on subjects you know nothing about and roundups of what other blogs are doing) and people who can actually write.

  • It'd be really nice if the Globe's "About" page wasn't just bios and explained their mission.

  • Kim P.

Geez, you're sooo demanding. I mean what did you want from journalists? A full functioning website or something?
