Can't Miss It: Tuesday

BICYCLE ROLLING: Pioneer Square's 88 Keys Dueling Piano and Sports Bar is kicking off their roller biking (if that's an appropriate name) tournaments and grudge matches tonight. Wikipedia schooled us on the relevant history: bicycle rolling was originally popular in Britain in the 1950s. It also states that people would normally partake in the rolling matches before watching movies at the cinema (strange), or while waiting in between dances at dance halls (even stranger). Roller racing is still popular in Britain, mainly with the bicycle messenger community, heading tournaments under the name Rollapalooza. Bizarre? Maybe, but we're still curious about this seemingly grueling activity of biking on rollers to the imaginary finish line. 88 Keys will be supplying the bikes, but it is recommended to wear or bring street shoes.

6 p.m. registration, 6:30 p.m. tournament // Emerald Sprints Bicycle Roller Racing, 315 Second Avenue South // Tickets: $5 at door

Dr. Dog
PHILLY ROCK: Philadelphia psychedelic rockers Dr. Dog will be gracing Seattle at the newly-reopened Crocodile, along with The Cave Singers and Golden Boots. Reminiscent of '60s pop bands such as The Band, The Beatles, The Kinks, or The Beach Boys (that is seriously a lot of "The" bands), Dr. Dog is sure to be a good time. Plus, since it's on a Tuesday and '90s heartthrob Gavin Rossdale is in town the same night, you might be able to get one of the few seats in the venue, or at least find good standing space.

8 p.m. // The Crocodile // Tickets: $15

POETRY SLAMMIN': If you're up for crossing the water in honor of National Poetry Month, Bainbridge Performing Arts Center will be hosting their 3rd Annual Poetry Slam for one night only! The center's lobby will be transformed into a lounge, offering a no-host bar and refreshments, while local poets battle it out at the podium for cash prizes. They will be judged on content and performance, while reciting three poems in under three minutes each. Such a short ferry ride away....

7:30 p.m. // Bainbridge Performing Arts Center, 200 Madison Avenue North // Tickets: $5 suggested donation

  • I'm so stoked for the Dr. Dog show. And I decided last night that I'm going to start referring to places by the business that last occupied that location.

For instance, I waited 15 minutes as the second person in line for a drink at the Old Bad Ju-Ju, so now I do not want to return, un-happy hour'd.
