Can't Miss It: Monday

APRIL MADNESS: Tonight's the night that North Carolina and Michigan State vie for the NCAA championship. If you find yourself on the Eastside this evening (due to circumstance, work, or punishment for bad karma), we suggest you head over to the Big Picture's Redmond campus for their game-day party. $21 per person includes a big-ass buffet to build your own Dagwood-style sandwiches, Pacifica Clam Chowder, potato salad, cheese, and cookies, as well as a beer or non-alcoholic beverage. And if you're not in a food coma after all that, you can also watch the game on their big screen. Make your reservation by calling 425-556-0566.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR BRAIN: That's the idea put forth by philosophy professor Alva Noë in his new book Out of Our Heads: Why You Are Not Your Brain, and Other Lessons from the Biology of Consciousness. Instead, Noë says that consciousness comes from our interactions with our surroundings, not the neurochemical impulses of our nervous system. Or at least, that's what his big brain leads him to believe. Noë uses his mindgrapes to read from his book at Town Hall tonight.

SKILLS TO PAY THE BILLS: SIFF Cinema continues its run of Monty Miranda's debut film Skills Like This. The SXSW Audience Award-winning comedy follows Max Solomon (played by Spencer Berger, who also penned the film), as he realizes that he's no good as a writer and turns to his real talent: thievery. Berger's a charismatic presence with a most impressive head of hair, while his chums, the straight-laced Dave (Gabriel Tigerman) and stupid-sweet Tommy (Brian D. Phelan), keep the plot moving along at a fair pace. The film's a charming and solid debut, cute for what it is, with some camerawork more mature than expected and great cast chemistry. Skills Like This shows at SIFF Cinema through Thursday.

8:00 p.m. // SIFF Cinema // 321 Mercer St. // $10
