Antonio Frasconi's Woodcuts & Posters @ Davidson Gallery
Woodblock printing and illustration artist Antonio Frasconi is having his first-ever Pacific Northwest exhibition in Pioneer Square's Davidson Gallery, and we will just say it outright--this guy is totally amazing.

A couple of our favorite prints featured in the exhibition were from his "Some Well Known Fables" portfolio, which portray (exactly as it sounds) animals from the fables we all know and love. Though all of Frasconi's prints can be viewed on the Davidson Gallery website, we highly recommend making the trip downtown to see it for yourself in all its wonderfulness.
Since the late 1940s when Frasconi first immigrated to the U.S. from Uruguay to study at New York's Art Students League, he has been widely recognized as a master in his medium. His work carries a strong theme of social activism and empathy, and since the 1950s, he has illustrated and designed over a hundred books, including Langston Hughes's poetry collection Let America be America Again and Pablo Neruda's Bestiary/Bestiario.
We feel lucky to have him here in Seattle since his work is normally only on display in major U.S. museums including MoMA, Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, and the Brooklyn Museum.
