Award-Winning Comedy Skills Like This Arrives at SIFF Cinema
Tonight SIFF Cinema begins its run of the SXSW Film Festival Audience Award-winning film Skills Like This. After watching a preview screener, it's easy to see why the film won. It accomplishes the storytelling basics in unique fashion, telling a universally appealing story through an interesting plot and quirky characters.
Skills Like This follows Max Solomon, who at the turn of his 25th birthday realizes that he isn't cut out to be a writer. Dwelling over this new reality while sitting in a restaurant with his friends, Max is struck by a new life plan, and suddenly gets up and leaves to rob the bank across the street. The rest of the film covers Max and company's next couple of days as they deal with Max's turn for the illegal.
At its core, Skills Like This is a film about growing up. It's the tale of one man's quarter-life crisis, the existential dilemma of determining "Who am I, and what am I doing with myself?" It's a question that affects us all and this film attacks it honestly, if with a bit more larceny than most of us utilize in our own lives.
Skills Like This has multiple screenings over the next week at SIFF Cinema. Check the SIFF site for details.
