Big Fish Meets Moulin Rouge: Couture Carnivale

couturecarnivale.JPG

MargiDavid Salon, in conjunction with Sound Magazine, will host Couture Carnivale, their second annual fashion show, at the Last Supper Club this Sunday, March 29th from 6-11 p.m. The show benefits FareStart, a job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Sunday's event combines a fashion show featuring four local boutiques, burlesque performances by Miss Sugar Magnolia, Iva Handfull and Fannie Beaverhausen, and music by DJ Sang-Do. We caught up with Carrie from MargiDavid Salon to discuss the hotness.

General admission $25 // 7 p.m. doors // 8 p.m. show
VIP admission $75 includes 6:30 p.m. private performance by Scarlet Room, as well as a wine and chocolate tasting by Michael David winery and Theo Chocolates and VIP swag bags.

So the Couture Carnivale fashion show is a benefit this year...that's awesome. What made you guys want to be so philanthropic?

Margidavid Salon tries to stay as involved in the community as much as possible; therefore we are so excited to give back to such an amazing organization as FareStart. We have even given some of their students makeovers to give them that extra boost!

What made you select FareStart as the beneficiary?

In choosing a charity for our event, we wanted to stay local, and in looking at FareStart, we were just blown away by everything they do. They're awe-inspiring, really. We felt like this was an organization that we really wanted to support and help as much as possible, and the way we in the fashion industry do it is by throwing an amazing event!

Why a burlesque performance with a fashion show?

We are going off of the olde carnivale theme, so we felt burlesque fit into that perfectly. The ladies are absolutely amazing! They will be performing up to six short acts that are sure to be crowd-pleasers, and they will be wearing their own costumes for the show. The hair is also designed with the olde carnivale theme--think Big Fish meets a modern Moulin Rouge--lots of texture!

Sounds hot. Anyway, tell me about the boutiques that are involved.

The designers/boutiques involved are all local. Some pieces have been created special for the show, and we are throwing in some new pieces with one-of-a-kind vintage looks. The Master of Ceremonies will be Anna Banana of the Pretty Parlor, and the featured boutiques are Pretty Parlor, Lil Paisley, Lucky Vintage, Velouria, Market Street Shoes, and ZuZu Pop.

What's this about Scarlet Room?

Scarlet Room is a great band that I highly recommend. General admission guests come at 7 to see the 7-7:30 show, while 6:30-7 is a private show for VIP guests. We are also having a raffle with prizes ranging from products to airfare, so it's well worth the $5 raffle ticket. To enhance the carnivale theme we are having a face painter to give those who want it a little boost of color. Music throughout the evening will be provided by the fabulous DJ Sang-Do.

Thanks Carrie! See you Sunday!
