What other church in our area besides Mars Hill (or, perhaps, The Stranger) could possibly have attracted the attention of a national television show looking to talk about Satan? This Friday, ABC's 'Nightline' will film a half-hour segment at Mars Hill, of course.
The segment will feature a conversational debate about the existence of Satan between MHC pastor Mark Driscoll, Deepak Chopra, Annie Lobart (the founder of Hookers for Jesus), and theologically unorthodox rebel Rev. Carlton Pearson. The four hold markedly different viewpoints on the subject. ABC says they're doing the segment because in troubled times, people have a renewed interest in the supernatural dark side.
Instead of watching Nightline, Seattlest will just rent the first season of Carnivale, which provided an excellent and non-Driscollian treatment of that subject, and then we'll spend a few hours contemplating the Great Depression, dwarves, strippers, ego and incest. And that will be enough of that. What we would tune in to ABC to see: Mark Driscoll and Dan Savage duking it out on camera for the honorary title of "Seattle's Biggest Personality."

Maybe I'm just a godless liberal but this seems like a big fucking waste of everybody's time.
Debating satan is like debating whether or not Iron Man could kick Super Man's ass.
We do have a ruined economy we should be worried about right?
There's only so much worrying about the economy you can do, though. Might as well talk about SATAN! Or ZOMBIES!
I'll debate the Iron Man v Super Man topic. That's actually interesting.
Carnivale is awesome and I hope they at least write the remaining 4 books.
Ah yes, I belive TIME Magazine just named 'The New Calvinism' one of the ten ideas that are changing the World /right/ now...yes, thisverysecond. Clearly, with the Bachelor on the outs, ABC needed something else to ruffle Seattle feathers.
