Can't Miss It: Monday
GRINDHOUSE: The Sunset's monthly night of chopsocky fun Kung Fu Grindhouse puts out another installment of more delicious b-movie trash. Tonight's triple-header kicks off with Charles Bronson as a bareknuckles boxer in Hard Times, followed by monster movie From Beyond at 8:30, and closing the night with Jackie Chan in Dragons Forever.

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE: Astronomer Alan Boss has always believed we are not alone in the universe, and in fact he thinks life has the potential to be everywhere. In The Crowded Universe: The Search for Living Planets, Boss describes his ideas about planetary formation that make earth-like planets not only likely, but common. Tonight at Town Hall, he'll try to convince a crowd of government spending-conscious Seattleites that America must stay in the space race or risk being left out of the important scientific discovery of alien life.

BETRAYED: The Grand Illusion continues its run of The Betrayal (Nerakhoon), a powerful documentary we saw at last year's Sundance. Here's what we said then: "a Laos family's struggles after the U.S. secretly started bombing the country during the Vietnam War. Once the Communists took over, Dad was sent to a re-education camp for aiding the bombing effort, while Mom and [some of] the kids escaped to America, only to encounter a whole other set of problems in New York City. Their story is a remarkable one, and with the talents of award-winning director of photography Ellen Kuras, the film is in more than capable hands. Following the family for 23 years, Kuras co-directed and wrote Nerakhoon along with Thavi Phrasavath, the family's eldest son, so they're not just the film subjects, they're also active participants, a nice democratic touch."
7 p.m., 9 p.m. // Grand Illusion // 1403 NE 50th St. // $8
