Seattlest Roundtable On Downtown Dumpsters
As part of a push to clean up downtown, Seattle Public Utilities will be reclaiming 700 dumpsters from the alleys south of Denny and west of I-5. In order to maintain some kind of order, they'll increase the number of daily trash and recycling pick-ups from that area. We mandated a roundtable discussion of the move at Seattlest HQ so our readers can more intensely experience every facet of our hive blog-mind.
Jack: Where am I supposed to spend my lunch breaks now?
David S.: Until they eliminate the Constitution of the United States of America, I will play in, on, or around whatever I want.
Ronald: I always thought of Dumpsters as Seattle's version of the old-fashioned Paris pissoir. Surprised, I was, to learn of all their other uses.
MvB: I guess with more frequent pick-ups the bags won't be that likely to be opened up by critters of the night (rats, raccoons, possums)--but that seems the most likely drawback.
Ronald: Critters of the night in Belltown: drunk frat boys and crack whores, yes. Rats, racoons & possums, not so many.
David S.: Removing the dumpsters won't bring back this statement, "Hey, let's take a shortcut through this dark alley."
(at this point, a long pause in the conversation)
David S.: When they took away the metal trash cans, I remained silent. When they came for the glass only recycle bins, I did not speak out. When they came for the dumpsters, I remained silent. When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.
And that's the word.
