Tonight's bill at Chop Suey has not one, but two bands of interest. Taking the middle slot (after openers Resplandor) is Bell, the Olga Bell-fronted Brooklyn band that's gotten a ton of great press off the strength of last year's Bell EP. Once you get past the Björk comparisons, you can't help but be impressed by how powerful Olga Bell's voice is, both literally and figuratively. For more info, read this Olga Bell interview from Gothamist.
While this is Bell's first tour, Asobi Seksu are road veterans, despite having only just released their third LP, Hush, last month. The new album has the same problem as their previous outings, sounding a bit too saccharine for our tastes, perhaps moreso this time around with their intentionally stripped-down arrangements (bring back the BIG! guitars). We realized long ago that we appreciate Asobi Seksu most live, and this new album hasn't changed that. We're hoping they've kept the live show's intensity.
