A longshot? On Friday afternoon, you'll recall, freshman Councilman Tim Burgess took himself out of the running to challenge Greg Nickels. Savage, whose current position is editorial director of The Stranger, posted an excerpt from the email Burgess sent to his constituents (the same excerpt published on Seattlest, in fact), with a one-word comment: "Coward," and the observation, "I may have to run." No fewer than 72 comments on that post so far, almost all saying, "Yeah, Dan, do it." Now, if Licata or Steinbrueck get in the race, that's another story. But if it's Savage, as one commenter writes, "I think that the combined resources of every single left of center blog will more than outweigh whatever Nickels has in his coffer. Do it, Dan."

if he does it should make a tremendously entertaining trainwreck.
He can't even run a weekly paper, much less a city.
What an hedonistic, over-rated tool. Much like the Phillips Head screw-driver. I'll accept the pun, too.
Dan has his sycophants on Slog telling him how wonderful, smart, witty and charming he is, which no doubt fuels his delusions of grandeur.
As a sex columnist he's peerless. When he tries to be a journalist, a deep thinker or -- heaven help us -- a politician he's pretty much a joke.
The funny thing is, most of the commenters on Slog truly believe he could be elected. Not sure what world they live in.
He is Seattle's Alan Keys.
I'm not saying he'd win, but I'd probably vote for him. I seem to agree with most of his positions, such as equal rights, urban density, mass transit. Maybe a candidate such as him could "remind" Nichols of many of the positions he purportedly holds.
That being said, it is probably wise to at least have some elected position experience (city council, school board, neighborhood council, SOMETHING) before running for mayor.
Just because you agree with someone, doesn't mean you should give them your vote to operate a city of nearly 700k during business hours.
I agree with my barber, but shit, I barely trust him to trim my sideburns, much less put in movement a solution to transportation or density growth.
Agreed, hence my qualifying statement regarding experience. That being said, I'm not sure it takes a genius to be a city mayor.
I'm certain being a genius has nothing to do with being a mayor as well. And while I did take in your qualifier, I'm so passionate about NOT Savage, I had to say something.
Having seen Troy's sideburns, I agree with his assessment (of his barber).
