Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition

LIKE MOVIES FOR CHOCOLATE: Tonight is movie night at Theo Chocolate on Phinney, and--you'll never guess, we'll just tell you--they're showing Like Water for Chocolate. (Rotten Tomatoes says it's 89 percent fresh!) But it sounds a little different than a night at the megaplex: "We will be serving up hot chocolate, popcorn and other special surprises. Be sure to bring your own camping chair, or cushion to sit on, and snuggle up in front of the fire." Reservations are required: call 206-632-5100 to book your spot.

6:30-9 p.m. // 3400 Phinney Avenue North // Tickets: $15 plus tax, RSVP req'd

PORNOGRAPHER'S SOLO: The New Pornographers frontman A.C. Newman shows up at Neumos on Saturday night--his new album is called Get Guilty, and he's married to the marketing manager of Matador Records. (We throw that in to humanize the pop-music-blurb machine.) Just about everyone will tell you that while his music is catchy as hell, Newman's lyrics can lead you down strange, undecipherable paths. Openers are Cataldo and Dent May and his Magnificent Ukelele.

8 p.m. doors // 925 East Pike Street // Tickets: $13 advance

MY DINNER WITH OSCAR: We just ran into Reel Grrls head honcho Malory at Joe Bar, which reminded us to remind you all that they're hosting an Oscar night celebration at Central Cinema on Sunday. It's a "glamorous 4-course dinner, with champagne, film trivia, awards (including best Dressed) and a celebration of women in film both in Hollywood and here at home." And of course there will be some boring awards show going on in the background. Red carpet attire is requested.

4 p.m. // 1411 21st Avenue // Tickets: $79 (dinner), $30.72 (champagne), $16.37 (show)
