Can't Miss It: Tuesday

9780205600793.jpg THE WHAT NOW?: The Master Musicians of Jajouka are the practitioners of (some claim) a 1,300-year-old musical tradition in the small Moroccan town of Jajouka. First brought to the attention of wider audiences by the Beats, who spent a large part of the Fifties in Tangiers, and later by Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, who recorded an album with them, it's a singularly rare opportunity to get to see the Master Musicians live. They take the stage tonight at Neumo's; tickets are still available.

BUSH HATIN': Profs. Walter Williams and Bryan Jones have no time for the economists who argue that the economy's health is the result of its own forces, independent from the politicians and their policies. For these two, our current predicament is all Bush's fault, stemming directly from his anti-tax and deregulatory policies, and indirectly from his belief in governmental incompetence and mismanagement. The professors, from the UW and U. of Texas, authors of the book The Politics of Bad Ideas: the Great Tax Cut Delusion and the Decline of Good Government in America, will present their ideas in a lecture tonight at Town Hall entitled "Obama and the Bush Legacy."

HARDBOILED: "Noir City: Newspaper Noir" continues tonight at SIFF Cinema. First up (at 7 p.m.) is Chicago Deadline, where reporter Alan Ladd, obsessed with a beautiful dead girl who's turned up, follows the clues around Chicago to piece together the story. Later (at 9:30) is Johnny Stool Pigeon. Originally entitled Cocaine, this was one of the first Hollywood films to explore the drug trade.
