Can't Miss It: Monday

A GIRL AND HER DOG: If you missed it during its run over the past couple weeks at the Varsity, it's your last chance to see Wendy and Lucy at the Northwest Film Forum, one of the best-reviewed films of last year. Not much happens in the film and for that we are grateful--just Wendy (with her yellow-brown mutt Lucy) travelling through Oregon on her way up to Alaska with the vague idea of getting a cannery job. But when one bad thing happens after another, Wendy is put in a tough place, and making it up to Alaska looks less and less likely. Director Kelly Reichardt has crafted a melancholy piece, a sparse, quiet, poetic film, without a shot wasted. It's about life minus a safety net, and many are seeing it as both a reflection of the current recession blues and a harbinger of what's to come. Wendy and Lucy runs through tomorrow.
7 p.m., 9 p.m. // Northwest Film Forum // 1515 12th Ave. // $9
TOKEN AUTHOR READING: Give Black History Month your obligatory white liberal guilt-filled acknowledgment at Elliott Bay's reading tonight by Larry Wilmore. Best known as the Daily Show's "Senior Black Correspondent," Larry is in town to promote his first book, I'd Rather We Got Casinos, and Other Black Thoughts. For a taste of what's to come, check out this excerpt, in which Wilmore provides nineteen pieces of evidence proving that Jesus was black.
7:30 p.m. // Elliott Bay Book Company // 101 S Main St // free
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY: Tonight is the monthly Seattlest meetup, this time at Bimbo's. We'll be taking in their all-day happy hour, which means $2.75 wells, $3.50 margaritas, $3.50 bloody marys, $1 off pitchers, 50ยข off drafts, and $1 off nachos. Look for us at a row of tables either towards the back (to the left of the bar) or along the front windows. Be sure to wear your best Lincoln hat, and we'll see you there.
5 p.m-8 p.m. // Bimbo's // 1013 E Pike St. // as much as you spend on drinks and food
