See Lisa Hannigan Sing from Sea Sew

Lisa_Hannigan_250.jpg "Hello, I am a singer."

So starts the "About" section of Lisa Hannigan's MySpace page.

We knew that. But we've been wondering what's happening with her. After all, last time Damien Rice came to town, playing Benaroya in 2007, we were sad that she wasn't there in her usual supporting role. Apparently, just one month before, Rice told Hannigan that their partnership had "run its creative course" and that he was ending his professional relationship with her.

Undaunted, Hannigan returned to Ireland to start her solo career, and starting posting songs to her MySpace page. Other sightings: She supported "Mr. A-to-Z" Jason Mraz on his 2008 tour, and contributed to the Even Better Than the Disco Thing charity album by recording her version of Diana Ross' "Upside Down."

Hannigan says she's "good at roasting potatoes and sewing on buttons," but we appreciate her as a talented musician with wonderful vocal range. Her debut disc, Sea Sew, has just been released, and we look forward to experiencing her voice, literally and figuratively, this weekend at The Triple Door. Gavin Glass opens the show.
