Can't Miss It: Wednesday

SUB POP HEROES: The Murder City Devils are back, and they're probably not happy about it. But if ever the time was right for their post-punk gloom and doom, it's now. It's like when Warren Zevon was talking about having cancer and he was all, "This is the kind of thing I've been talking about." (He also said, "Enjoy every sandwich.") And just so you know, Sound on the Sound is "stoked" about this show.

8 p.m. doors // Showbox Market // Tickets $20

Bluebeards_Castle.jpg ANTI-DATE MOVIE: In preparation for their upcoming performances of Bartok's opera, Seattle Opera is hosting a rare showing of Michael Powell's 1964 film version (60 min.) of Bluebeard's Castle. So there's this guy named Bluebeard, see, and he's got a castle, and his new wife starts asking him what happened to his first seven wives. It's an allegory about failing at intimacy, but it's also profoundly creepy. There are subtitles that act as signposts, but don't translate the text, so bring a Hungarian.

7:30 p.m. // SIFF Cinema, Seattle Center // Tickets $10

HAHN VS. CARTER: Violinist hottie Hilary Hahn is in recital at Benaroya Hall (7:30 p.m.) but Jimmy "I used to be President, y'all!" Carter is also over at the University Book Store for a well regulated book signing. He's scribbling on your copy of We Can Have Peace in the Holy Land: A Plan That Will Work, and there are strict rules.

6:30 p.m. // University Book Store // FREE, except for buying his book
