Get Out Tonight: Warhol Screen Tests at SAM

We used to think Andy Warhol's work was amusing.

Then we figured out the key to his genius: Abundance. Why paint one can of soup when you can paint the entire line? Why take a picture of the Empire State Building when you can take an 8-hour movie (it'll last longer)?

Short of traveling to Pittsburgh, however, or buying Andy Warhol "Giant" Size (how strange that it's not available on Kindle), an abundance of Warhol is hard to come by. SAM has two pieces, but two pieces do not a Warhol event make.

But tonight's Taking the Pulse show in the Plestcheeff Auditorium, 13 Most Beautiful . . . Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests , is another story: Video of 13 screen tests, Warhol's 4-minute-long films of the famous and anonymous alike. They're the Factory version of Flickr's "long photos". (Why settle for headshots?)

And why settle for a video screening when you can make it a multimedia event? It's the next best thing to the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, a live performance of the soundtracks composed by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips.

Unless someone decides to screen Chelsea Girls, this'll be the town's Warhol event of the year. We can't wait.
