What's Cookin': Seattle Edible Book Festival

You know the classics: One Hundred Spears of Solitude, Alice in Wonderbread, The World According to Carp.

Hold on a second. Did you read that right?

Consider this your two-month advanced notification. April 4 is the next go-around of the Seattle Edible Book Festival, part of an international celebration that happens, appropriately, around April Fools' Day. April 1 also happens to be the birthday of French gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, known (through Iron Chef, for some) for saying "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are." Marking the occasion, the festival enables bibliophiles, book artists and food lovers to express who they are and what they love to read through ingestible literary expression.

According to the guidelines, an edible book can look like a book, be a pun on a title, refer to a character, or just have something to do with books - as long as it's edible. Anyone can enter the friendly competition, lending your art to the lickable library. If you're more of a reader/eater than a creator, $10 gets you a keepsake menu and tastes of all the sweet and savory edible books you can stomach. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Seattle Center for Book Arts, so it's a stimulating event for a good cause.
