Larry Phillips Will Run For King County Executive Seat

The man, the legend....Larry Phillips
Yesterday, King County councilman Larry Phillips officially announced his run for the King County Executive seat--an elected position currently held by Ron Sims, who may or may not be campaigning for a fourth term. Phillips accused Sims of losing focus on King County business, though the executive has issued formal statements re-affirming his dedication to local issues. Sims is rumored to be jonesing for a federal appointment within the Obama administration.

On Phillips' website, the most recent news update is the councilman's enthusiastic support of the bored tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way viaduct. The tunnel solution is, he says, a "courageous choice" and "great solution" that will have "powerful transformative effects on the quality of life in our region for decades to come." We're sure Phillips will have lots more to say over the next several months about the viaduct, light rail, development, and the economy, and we're looking forward to analyzing his every word.
