OLD-TIMEY MONEY-SAVING TECHNIQUES: Channel your great-grandmother and learn how to use old-timey techniques to get more for your buck at the Redmond Whole Foods class on breaking down whole chickens. It's really not that hard, and home-made chicken stock tastes lip-smackingly bright and delicious. Knowing how to handle a whole bird will boost your sex appeal by 300 percent, we can attest. But don't take our word for it: go to Redmond tonight and see for yourselves. Call (425) 881-2600, ext 3, to reserve your spot.

SUNNY CAME HOME TO THE TRIPLE DOOR: Shawn Colvin, adult contemporary singer/songwriter with a few Grammys under her belt for that one song no one could get out of their heads in the '90s, bestows her talent upon audiences for three nights at the Triple Door this week. Listen to some of her newest material (yes, she kept making music after "Sunny Came Home") at her Flashlicious website, and read this 2007 article from the Guardian [pdf] about her in preparation for tonight's show.

7:30 p.m. // Triple Door // $45

DO IDEAS EVER REALLY DIE? Matt Miller of NPR "Left, Right and Center" fame will be discussing ideas whose time, he thinks, have come. Publishers Weekly says his book, "The Tyranny Of Dead Ideas," is about "how an American attitude of entitlement and outdated beliefs about government, education, taxes, business, corporate excess and health care threaten our national well-being and our position as a world leader." That sounds intriguing, and it's at least worth Town Hall's absurdly low entrance fee to hear more.

7:30 p.m. // Town Hall // $5

There's a certain irony to Whole Foods hosting a class on saving on food.
