Tonight: The Ettes at Sunset Tavern

It took us about 20 seconds to fall in love with the Ettes. Michele Myers played a song—we think it was "Dead and Gone"—from their first album and we were looking for it on iTunes the moment she announced the album name. And there isn't a track we don't like on Shake the Dust.

Loud, fast poppy garage-punk (or is it punky garage-pop?) drum and guitar backing a gorgeous voice that sounds like it's coming from someone trapped within your walls. What's not to love?

We fell back in love last year, a month or so after we'd been mildly disappointed with their second album, Look at Life Again Soon. Over the first couple of listens, at work, it seemed like more of same, a sound we loved but were already familiar with. But when we played the album during a late-night drive to Portland, it all clicked. Shake the Dust is perfect shut-out-your-officemates music, while Look at Life Again Soon is perfect swooping-down-the-freeway-in-the-dark music.

Either way, we wish we could make their concert tonight at the Sunset. We'd love to see them live, not least because we've got a crush on Coco, the lead singer. But there's no reason for you to miss it: Tonight, at 10pm, with Little Pieces and The Purrs opening. For $8!
