Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, Jan. 23-25

"Jonathan Coulton" by the wonderful ChrisB In Sea.
I'M SO INTO YOU BUT I'M WAY TOO SMART FOR YOU: Jonathan Coulton is Popular Science's official troubadour, a role which gives him free reign to nerd out so far that he sometimes ends up in outer space. We can only hope his live performance will be as delightful as all the Coulton-inspired youtube videos; probably our favorite song of his, "Skullcrusher Mountain," is about an evil genius who analyzes the problems of his would-be relationship with his beautiful victim. Coulton is goofy and clever, and his show should be wonderful.

8 p.m., Friday // The Moore // $25DOS

SAVE OUR SONICS: The Sonics may have moved to OKC, but that doesn't mean we can't still have Sonics tribute nights. And maybe said Sonics tribute nights will convince certain important higher-ups that we really do care about getting our basketball team back. Tonight, Neema, Wizdom, Grynch, and Spaceman--all extra ill performers who also happen to be extra big Sonics fans--play Neumos tonight with an additional performance by the Sonics Dance Team ("yes, they still have the outfits," Neema tells us). Hot!

9 p.m., Friday // Neumos // $10 // 21+

MUSICAL CLOUDS GATHERING: The Cumulus Festival is an post-rock-themed, three-night series of shows at three different venues: Chop Suey, King Cobra, and the Vera Project. We're told all but one of the bands are instrumental only, which just sounds... restful. "Think along the lines of Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, and Tortoise," DJ Res tells us. We recommend you hit up at least one night this weekend.

Friday - Sunday, schedule // Chop Suey, King Cobra, Vera Project // $8 // Fri. & Sat. are 21+, Sun. is all ages
