STELLA! YOU MAKE US YELL-A!: It's a good week when we get to use the phrase "comedic stylings," and the stylings of Stella--that's Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain--fall squarely in the comedic category. We're not really "comedy" people, but even we have seen Michael Ian Black live and laughed like there was no tomorrow--when in fact there was, and that became a whole thing we won't get into. The group has been called "bizarre, nonsensical, and very funny" and "dumb comedy in a suit," if that gives you some idea.

MOSSBACK WHISPERS MOSSY NOTHINGS TO YOU: Knute "Skip" Berger, former helmsman of the Seattle Weekly, has taken his grumped-up Fremont Bridge troll impersonation online at Crosscut.com, but unsatisfied with lambasting the wired-up, he's also written a book, Pugetopolis: A Mossback Takes on Growth Addicts, Weather Wimps, and the Myth of Seattle Nice. We would describe the book further, but the title covers most of that ground. We understand that at the Q&A he eats a Volkswagen.

POLANSKI'S GOT A KNIFE!: Last night for Roman Polanski's Knife in the Water, which is a film he made before he discovered consensual sex with minors. Well, who's to say for certain, but before he was charged with it anyway. This film quickly became the gold standard for "taut psychological thrillers" and it introduced the concept of "yacht-hiking" to Polish audiences in 1962, who previously had never seen or heard of yachts. There's also a knife. But the Poles are familiar with knives, so that made less of an impression.
