ONE WEEKEND ONLY

UPDATE: This performance has been canceled due to the flooding closure of I-5. Capacitor, an SF-based interdisciplinary dance group, is bringing their latest show biome to Seattle Rep for one weekend only. Founded by Jodi Lomask in 1997, Capacitor specializes in developing shows about scientific topics, in close collaboration with specialists in the field. Biome explores the complex ecosystem of the rain forest tree canopy. Easily one of the most exciting shows going on all month. (Seattle Rep, 155 Mercer St. Fri. & Sat., 8 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. Tix $25/$15 students)

Marat/Sade @ the Balagan. Peter Weiss's mind-bending, genre-busting masterpiece Marat/Sade is a deeply disturbing meta-play influenced by both Brecht and Artaud. (1117 E. Pike St. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m. Tix $15/$12)

The Servant of Two Masters @ Seattle Shakes. Not Shakespeare! Carlo Goldoni's commedia dell'arte play is re-imagined in the vaudeville tradition. (Seattle Shakespeare, Center House Theatre. Fri. & Sat., 7:30 p.m., Sun., 2 p.m. Tix $22-$36)

WEEKDAY THEATRE

Guardians @ Theatre Off Jackson. As dark and cynical a meditation on the Iraq war and our own culpability as we're likely to get, Absurd Reality Theatre's play come loaded with a fantastic cast performing a subtly anti-theatrical script. Highly recommended--check back for our review. (Theatre Off Jackson, 409 Seventh Ave. S. Tues. & Weds. only, 8 p.m. Tix $15/$10)

While I'm a big theater fan, I have to admit that I found the 14/48 deal kind of a jive concept.

But then, this morning, waiting for my doc at Virginia Mason, this very working class family sitting near me was talking nonstop about it. What, someone at a play that's appealing to audience members not in standard target demo?? That's gotta be worth something.
