Updating...80 Percent...Complete

If you're reading this, we have the ability to post. You don't have the ability to comment...yet. Hang in there. Once the backend shenanigans are finished, there's a new "look" for Seattlest that's going to come online as well. Along with some other holiday goodies. For one thing, if we're reading the instructions correctly--lessee, flange A goes to socket B---you'll be able to type link URLs into comments and we'll convert 'em to live hyperlinks on the fly. Is that cutting edge of 2003 or what! Anyway, it's very exciting, so stay right there on the edge of your seat.

Hi bilco: oh, I'm aware--I comment (or not) through the same system. I know the response time has been way too long. I'll tell the IT gnomes to keep working on it.

    Hey, MvB -

You may or may not be aware of this, but posting comments is still going very slowly. I just posted one and it took damn near a minute for it to register and reload.

I think it's discouraging your commentors, which seem very low for the past few days. Of course, most of these libertines are probably still hung over, or were pre-hungover last week.

Hi bilco: yes, this upgrade has made us super kinky over here. We're "adjusting server loads" to help with comment login failures and page load failures. The mailing address failure is more peculiar. But if you get locked out in the future and want to alert me, try editor at seattlest dot com.

  • bilco

Last night when the login was down, I found another issue - the contact us page fails. And then, the mailing address for admin@seattlest.com also failed.

Getting all the kinks out after a launch sure is a bitch.

@bilco: you might have reached your Recommended limit--I just tried recommending two posts and had no problem. But I do know that each Recommend leaves a cookie in your browser, and at a certain point, you're all cookied up and it stops working. Not sure why that is... But you might try clearing your Seattlest Recommended cookies if there's more than 10 or so. Which there should be because Seattlest is so awesome.

Oh, and let me check if that live linky thing works: http://seattlest.com

One other little buggy that I found - the stars (next to the comment icon). I wasn't sure what this was, so I clicked it (no hover text or anything to explain it to you). Sometimes, it heads off to 'busy-submit' land. But it seems after you do that, you can't click another star.

@Wesa: I think our new editorial coverage area has been fixed!

@bilco: the icons are *supposed* to grab thumbnails of pics from recent posts, with post titles appearing as you scroll over--it's another way of skimming the site. Not sure about how cool that is yet. I'm guessing Samsung has made an -ist network ad buy, yes.

  • bilco

Definitely some improvements, but boy does this new design chew up the vertical real estate. Those icons on the top row need to go.

And, just guessing here, but is Samsung a sponsor? Or are you guys buying space on the Samsung web site?

Looks like there's still a few bugs. Hope the rest of the transition goes smoothly!

Hey, comments are back! Woo hoo!

  • Neil Epstein

    Very Cool!
