BAKE THINGS: Did you read Seattlest Rachael's bomb recipe for molassas cookies earlier this week? They include cardamom, which is an inspired stroke of spice. Today could be your day to try a batch of those. On Sunday, we made Orangette's nutmeg doughnut muffins, and we can highly recommend that recipe as well. Make sure you'll have a few people around to help you consume them, though--those balls of goodness are dense and rich. If you have oranges around (it's Christmas... who doesn't have oranges around?), consider adding a teaspoon or two of orange zest to them.
WATCH MOVIES: Our holiday movies of choice are Die Hard and Love Actually. Coincidentally, they both feature Alan Rickman and his handsome face in smarmy, evil roles. Make yourself some Irish Cream-spiked hot chocolate, curl up on the couch with cookies and a blanket (and a person, should you be so lucky to have one of those around), and lose yourself in a good story for a few hours.
LISTEN TO SOUL: You don't have to be listening to "Jingle Bells" if you don't want to. We suggest you listen to soul instead. It's perfect to throw on while you make cookies, slow dance around your living room with your cat, or pre-write Christmas thank you notes to your Great-Aunt Bertie. British songstress Adele's album 19 and Raphael Saadiq's cheerful Motown-reminiscent The Way I See It are comforting, musically interesting, recently released options you might not have heard yet.

Around The -Ists This Week

Ditto on your favorite holiday movies. I've watched them both in the last few days.
"You should be on fuckin' TV with that accent."
Neglected holiday movie: Miracle of Morgan's Creek. Hilarious and a Christmas miracle!
