Can't Miss It: Wednesday
LIVE LOCAL RADIO: Seattlest Abbey joins Josh from Sound on the Sound (Abbey's other writing gig) to play over an hour of great local bands, who not only have great albums out but also put on an amazing live show. This celebration of the best local live acts of 2008 is courtesy of basement-dwelling Hollow Earth Radio, an internet-only radio station that's on 24 hours a day, despite the fact you've never heard of them.

PRAYER DANCING: Some religions are narrow but Sufism is very Rumi. Ha! No, but seriously. If you're like us, you've never actually seen whirling dervishes whirl in person, despite having read about them in various pulp fiction scenarios. On hand for the Sema Ceremony (in honor of Rumi) are Turkish musicians Necati Celik, oud, vocalist Timucin Cevikoglu, and Celalettin Bicer, ney, along with U.S.-based musicians Jemaluddin Henke, ney, Nureddin Crammatte, kudum, Andrea Walls, violin, and Dennis Godfrey, gudulka. And then there's Susanne Simran, ney, from Germany, for some reason.

IPHONE EUPHONY: No, you're right, that title doesn't make sense. Anyway, this one is an iPhone app daydreamer/developer meet-up, held at WSGR, the downtown law firm that the guy who invented the Touch Type app works at. It's an informal get together to discuss "all things iPhone app-related. Drop by if you're developing or thinking about developing an app." Plus, WSGR do IP law, so you can have 'em protect your million-dollar idea from the get-go.
7-9 p.m. // WSGR, 701 Fifth Avenue, Suite 5100 // FREE
Thanks to Seattlest Flickr pool member smohundro for our local whirling dervish equivalent.
