Can't Miss It: Monday

BAD FILM: This week, David Schmader's crash-course in the history of awful cinema continues with the legendarily bad Bill Cosby flick, Leonard Part 6 (yes, the one where he rides an ostrich). If you're a Capitol Hill hipster who's been following around Stranger writers for years, Schmader's shtick is probably a bit old by now. But by and large he's good at it, ensuring some added hilarity to an already comically bad film, all while gorging yourself on beer and pizza from the good people at Central Cinema.

GOOD FILM: Ah, Eisenstein: the godfather of cinema. What can we say? He's the auteur to end all auteurs, and if you've never seen his films you don't know what you're missing. Through Dec. 18, SIFF is showing one of his masterpieces, 1938's Alexander Nevsky. A piece of anti-German propaganda, Nevsky had the great misfortune to come out mere months before the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, dooming Poland and setting off the Second World War. The film was instantly suppressed, but survives the test of time as one of Eisenstein's classics.

CHEESY FILM: Is good film not what you're in the mood for, but you maybe feel that the price of beer alone should earn you entry to see a bad film? Well damn if there isn't a third option for you! On a nearly music-less Monday night in December, there's plenty of cinematic options, and the one for you is over at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard, where Kung Fu Grindhouse returns tonight with a trio of fine pulp films: Maniac Nurses Find Ecstasy, Death Wish 3, and Triangular Duel.

IMPORTANT STUFF: Tonight, Town Hall hosts a public forum on the fate of the waterfront/Viaduct replacement projects. Speakers include the heads of the state, county, and city DOTs. This ain't gonna be fun, but it's your chance to be part of the (no-flippin'-highway) solution.
