Slate's Michael Kinsley Calls Blogging "Extremely Distasteful"
(UPDATE: Apparently Michael Kinsley did not call blogging in general "extremely distasteful." That makes the remainder of this post less interesting. We don't advise paying much attention to it.)
The Big Blog's Monica Guzman was just listening to Michael Kinsley speak at the City Club's Year in Review Luncheon, and she quotes him thusly:
This is the first election where bloggers and the Internet in general really were the major factor. People used to have panels like this one about what effect blogging has on mainstream media. That's no longer an issue because no one much cares about the mainstream media anymore. It's about the bloggers themselves. My experience with blogging is that it's extremely distasteful. People make horrible comments on your blog.
The City Club invited us to cover their luncheon, actually, but didn't want to kick in for lunch, even though they initially told us we could attend for free. When we RSPV'd they emailed back, Oh, you can have some coffee. But not lunch. So we're glad that now they know we are, and we quote, "the major factor." Anyway, we didn't go, and instead we got a photo of a semi stuck in a tree, so things evened out. We promised them we'd link to Monica's coverage, though, and then we noticed Kinsley seemed to be focusing on us ("major factor") and Slog ("extremely distasteful"), so all's well that ends well.
Next Wednesday we're hitting the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce's Regional Economic Update, which comes with breakfast. Stay tuned.
