Semi Stuck in Tree on East Aloha

alohatruck1.jpg

We heard from CHS that a truck had hit a power line at 12th Avenue and East Aloha, so we just ran up to check. It's a semi that has broken off a huge tree branch, which in turn snagged a power line. So now the semi, branch, and downed line are waiting for a Seattle City Light crew to arrive and untangle them. In the meantime, East Aloha is closed to traffic between 12th and 13th. We suspect it'll be closed at least an hour or two, given the ticklishness of the situation.

On a side note, you might be wondering why a semi was trying to negotiate a thin, curvy, tree-lined residential street like Aloha. But Aloha is classified as a 30-mph thoroughfare, according to the city. It's also a recommended bike route, which we chuckle grimly at as cars pass us doing 35 mph about one foot from our left elbow. Some winter night we're going to get whacked and when we do, we and our lawyers will own Seattle. If you have been nice to us, we might let you stay.
