Port Managers Resign Over Accusations Of Fraud
Larry McFadden and John Rothnie, managers at the Port of Seattle, have resigned from their positions after a special investigation into the Port's activities found ten provable instances of fraud. According to the P-I's sources, Port CEO Tay Yoshitani had planned to fire the two men as part of his disciplinary response to the investigation's findings, but they chose to leave under their own will before Yoshitani could announce his intentions.
It's not clear yet if the Port Commission, a five-person elected board which determines policy for the organization, will accept the resignations. We'll keep you posted about further disciplinary action; Yoshitani is scheduled to speak about the Port's formal response to the investigation at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
We understand the urge to resign rather than wait for the axe to fall on your head, as this is our standard procedure when it comes to romantic relationships. Still, our final sympathies lie with Commission President John Creighton, because he said this:
To me, this is beyond the pale: Fraud was identified in the report, and if we are truly going to have zero tolerance at the port, I would support outright termination. The individuals in questions should be kicked to the curb with no ifs, ands or buts about it.
Mr.s McFadden and Rothnie, Seattlest HQ offers you the use of our living room to chill out and watch some TV, now that you're officially unemployed like the rest of America. We recommend you start with Season Two of The Wire...
