News from the Ground at UW Rally

Seattlest didn't make it personally to the rally at the University of Washington, but our beautiful and talented sister Anna did, and she's texting us madly with updates and photos. She estimates 200 in attendance to protest John Fay's article in the Daily.

"The main stress is on fact checking, the intersection of rights for all minorities, and the image that was printed with the article," she says, rather than on arguing that the offending column should not have been published at all. (The image, shown here with an X through it, was of a man and a sheep, implying bestiality.)

Speakers from the UW Women's Studies department, the Q Center, and St. Mark's Episcopal have all been supportive of the protest and affirming the intersection of rights for all minorities. "You are not a problem to be fixed," said the St. Mark's representative, Mary Shehane.
