How did this sneak up on us? The 2008 Winter Beer Festival starts today at 5 p.m. and goes 'til 10. Then it starts up again tomorrow from 1-10 p.m. 30 Washington breweries present their winter goods (here's the list) for your inspection; your admission includes a tasting cup and six 5-oz. beer samples.
New this year: Chocolate Box, a "premier chocolate purveyor located in downtown Seattle" will be offering chocolate samples to go with your “caramel”, “toffee”, “coffee” or “chocolatey” beers. Or mix it up and contrast with a Purple Yam Porter from Laughing Buddha Brewing.
Typically this event is packed, so be prepared. But it's also usually a lot of fun.

Friendly Folk-Pop for the Kids: Hey Marseilles at Vera This Saturday

"Purple Yam Porter" sounds intriguing. These will all be available later via retail, right?
I get all my Laughing Buddha at the Hopvine. I wouldn't bet on all these showing up in stores, though.
Hmmm...sounds pretty much the same as the Phinnney Ridge one a few weeks ago, but without the homemade cookies.
Laughing Buddha bottles--the big ones, 22oz?--were at Bottleworks before Thanksgiving--including the Purple Yam Porter. Which, by the way, is very good. I'm not a huge fan of "flavored" beers usually, but the Laughing Buddha guy makes them work.
